AgriSat is thrilled to announce our strategic partnership with Hubtel, Ghana's leading enterprise communication platform. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our mission to bridge the digital divide for smallholder farmers across Ghana.
Why SMS and AI Notifications Matter
In a country where smartphone penetration in rural areas remains below 40%, SMS remains the most reliable and accessible communication channel. Our partnership with Hubtel leverages their robust SMS infrastructure combined with AgriSat's AI capabilities to deliver actionable insights directly to farmers' basic mobile phones.
"We've seen that farmers who receive timely weather alerts are 3x more likely to take preventive action against crop losses," says Kofi Mensah, Head of Product at AgriSat. "By combining Hubtel's reliable delivery with our AI-powered predictions, we're creating a safety net that protects farmers' livelihoods."
What Farmers Will Receive
Weather Alerts
24-hour advance warnings for rain, drought, and extreme temperatures
Market Prices
Daily commodity prices from major markets across Ghana
Crop Health Insights
AI-detected anomalies and recommended actions
Farming Reminders
Planting, fertilizing, and harvesting schedules
AI-Powered Personalization
What sets our notification system apart is the AI layer. Unlike generic broadcasts, our system learns each farmer's profile their location, crops, farm size, and historical data to deliver hyper-relevant messages. A maize farmer in Ashanti receives different recommendations than a tomato grower in Greater Accra.
The AI also optimizes delivery timing. If a farmer typically checks their phone at 6 AM before heading to the farm, our system learns this pattern and schedules important alerts accordingly.
Scale and Reach
Hubtel's network reaches 95% of Ghana's population, including remote areas where other communication channels fail. This partnership allows us to deliver over 500,000 notifications per day to farmers in their local languages English, Twi, Ga, Ewe, and Hausa.
"This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to power businesses and communities through reliable communication." "Agricultural transformation in Ghana requires reaching farmers where they are, and SMS remains the most universal channel available."
Looking Ahead
In Phase 2, we plan to introduce two-way messaging, allowing farmers to text questions back to our AI assistant and receive instant answers. We're also exploring voice messages for farmers who prefer audio content.
